More homes than ever online
Almost two-thirds of UK homes are now online, official statistics have revealed.
According to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 16.5 million households have internet access.
This represents a 1.2 million increase on the number for 2007.
Some 93 per cent of internet users aged under 70 have a university degree or an equivalent qualification, the ONS said, with two out of three adults now going online every day.
It is estimated that the use of desktop and laptop computers has climbed by 400 per cent in the last six years.
